History
The Parking Authority of the City of Scranton, Pennsylvania was
organized
by File of the Council No. 5, 1953 of the City Council
of the City of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Articles of Incorporation
thereof were approved by, and filed with, the Secretary of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,
on March 30, 1953, pursuant
to the provisions of the Pennsylvania
Parking Authority Law
(the Act of June 5, 1947, P.L. 458,
as amended).
This
Commonwealth law permits towns and municipalities to
create parking authorities. As such, the Parking Authority
of the
City of Scranton is a separate "body corporate and
politic" to the
City of Scranton.
The Parking Authority operates four parking garages and one parking lot,
all situated within the downtown corridor. The Authority also has several enforcement officers who patrol designated routes in and around the downtown area, observing all parking violations and issuing parking
citations to the offending persons or vehicles.
